Seeing the Light In Louisiana

There has been a strange sequence of events over the past 6 months in Louisiana that seem to indicate that the deep crazy of national republican politics has worn out its welcome.

First we saw Bobby Jindal's poll numbers (PPP, Southern Media) take the biggest nosedive over a relatively short period of time that I have ever seen for a politician not caught up in obvious public scandal. Jindal last polled under 40% when a year earlier he won an election with numbers in the 60s. Washington Post on Bobby Jindal's poll numbers

Next we saw saw a truly head scratching public announcement that the two biggest fundraisers in the history of Louisiana Republican politics, Boysie Bollinger (former chair of the LA Republican party) and Joe Canizaro have pledged to support Mary Landrieu in her 2014 Senate race.  http://dailykingfish.com/...

The latest development is just as shocking and unexpected. Republican Congressman from Louisiana, Charles Boustany, MD has seemingly endorsed medicaid expansion in Louisiana under Obamacare. http://tpmdc.talkingpointsmemo.com/...

Each of these developments alone would be worthy of further exploration, but as a group it exposes an undeniable trend towards Louisiana rejecting the conventional wisdom that it is a solidly red, tea party loving state. The local MSM tries very hard to deny it, but Louisiana may finally be seeing the light.
